Betsey Johnson gave her rendition of the cartoonish large red lips that Alexander McQueen once used on his catwalk.

Long live McQueen!

Unicorns in my fantasy bar!  Most of the Functional Beauty items are part of my list…I should just call my list Functional Beauty.

Just devastating news.  Sad day.  RIP Master McQueen.

McQueen recounted in an interview that he once wrote the words “I am a cunt” into the sleeve lining of a suit he was working on for Prince Charles.

Marion dressed down. Marion always with a hat.

my favorite thing about Nine.

Marion Cotillard is on the more elusive side unless she’s posing on a red carpet.  I tried to dig up as many photos of her in more casual attire…b/c I just love her relaxed, functional style.  I’m happy to see she is never without a propper topper AND diggin her with cute bf Guillaume Canet.  Towards the end here…I had to throw in some glammed up Marion.

Hearts Day Prezzie

I really love Valentines Day.  I admit, some of it is cheesy and all fluff…but my love for all things pink + red + hearts + pretty flimsy doilies + flowers makes the lame hallmarky-ness not matter.

If I was buying myself a Vday present this year (yet to be determined) I would for sure place an order for these scalloped red velvet shorts.

I have been dying to own a piece from Alexandra Grecco‘s beautiful line.  These shorts might be just the thing…a little over the top and yet something I feel would someday pass on.

I would love to wear them with my Les Bijoux De Sophie white rabbit necklace.

Discovery of snow flakes. No two alike.

My little pretty kitty Bits discovered snow today.  I can thank the “Snowpocalypse” hitting the nation’s capitol today/tonight/tomorrow.  I was lucky enough to capture the momentous moment!

It’s tough work discovering new things.  She laid on her back to contemplate snow…I told her no two flakes are alike and I think it just was too much…

Apple doesn’t fall far from the tree

I caught a documentary on cable the other day about Apple and the mad scientist behind Apple, Steve Jobs.

I have to say the old photos of Jobs captured my attention.  Jobs is intriguing as he managed to greatly influence how we communicate and absorb culture with the most stylish tools imaginable.

It’s been noted that Jobs in the past put strain on projects  because of his intrinsic need for great design and beautiful composition.  At NeXT, he pushed his hardware division because of the magnesium case used on the NeXTcube.   Functional Elegance.

In 1972, Jobs enrolled in Reed College in Portland, Oregon. Although he dropped out after only one semester, he continued auditing classes at Reed, such as one in calligraphy.

Jobs later stated, “If I had never dropped in on that single course in college, the Mac would have never had multiple typefaces or proportionally spaced fonts.”

After browsing and seeking out old pics it’s easy to see that he has always been stylish.  I like the idea that his style and his smarts combined have created magic.

Even with a mustache…I’m still diggin his look.

Today Jobs is famous for his uniform of  a black long-sleeved mock turtleneck

made by St. Croix, Levi’s 501 blue jeans, and New Balance 991 sneakers.
