Vincent Darre’s Paris apartment and salon are TDF.
I’m on the hunt now for some 8th grade biology and human anatomy inspired pieces.
Darre’s use of primary colors is inspiring.
It’s a great example of how to work color in with darker, gothic design.
His bone collection of furniture is brilliant…I’ll be working some of it into future design school projects!
And I love how he has ladders up against the book shelves… creates a mini library feel. Eggggcellent.

I’m into red stockings lately…not sure yet if it’s something I can pull off…
for now but I’m happy to look at them and dream up the possibility…

Interpol reminds me of my youthful 20′s. Not that I’m no longer youthful…though when I think on it, I no longer have some of the same qualities I once had.
To quote Oscar Wilde, “I am not young enough to know everything.”
Turn On The Bright Lights was a pivotal moment in Indie Rock, as well as in the life of this here dame.
I can’t tell you how many nights I spent dancing my arse off to Obstacle 1.

Digging through my old files, I found some fantastic photos of the band.
You know that classic question: If you were stranded on an Island which albums would you take?
Well, I’d surely bring Turn On The Bright Lights with me and hope that I’d also packed some black eyeliner and a black and white and red striped get up.
They certainly had a major influence on my catalog for fashion and music.
Around the same time I was watching Blow Up for the first time and falling in love with Bobby Dylan and the Velvet Underground. I visited the Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh. Hallelujah.
Reading and listening to interviews with he band turned me on to some great film and literature.
I saw The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover…and read Atonement…after listening to their interview with Bob Boilen of NPR and All Songs Considered. All this before I started working for NPR!
Oh and Daniel Kessler, if you’re reading this, I still think we’d make a perfect match.

I’ve been a fan of JT’s since he was rocking is fro and singing next to JC, Joey, Chris and Lance.
I have to say he just gets better with age.
First off, he pipes on and on about how much he loves and listens to NPR. And proves it by sporting an NPR t-shirt.
Secondly, he gives us more William Rast.
And last but not least, the most shocking for me, he has his own blog that he updates regularly and he posted about one of my faves, Hannah + Landon. I feel faint when I imagine Justin discovering Hannah and Landon and feeling compelled to post about them. And how descriptive he is with his post:
“There’s this one place I know I can go…..
That will give me the same inspiration….
…………….as a good line in a withered book.
….or an old sepia photograph….where all the women are still wearing immaculate white gloves…
You know, inspiration in that day-dreamy, sun-lit, the-birds-are-chirping, hippie-hair-loose, opiatic, rose-colored glasses sense?”
Cheers to JT.

I came across these early photos of some of Washington, DC’s early hip chicks.
Eastern High circa 1935

see it larger and in great detail here.
I can’t get over the details in their clothing….and they all look pretty comfy…Love the braids and haircuts. Really make me want to cut about 6 inches off.
Woodrow Wilson High circa 1943

See it larger and in great detail here.
Looks like in a bit of time, hair became longer….
I love thinking about my city back in the day…all the change that was on it’s way…and it’s still happening.
On a ’30′s related note, I finally finished watching 42nd Street. OMG. The clothes…really…to have a closet full of the cute little jumpers…at least every other outfit I was wishing I was a great seamstress. There’s a lot of inspiring cuts and patterns.
I’m falling hard for Alexa Chung’s monochromatic red at the CFDA/Vogue dinner.
Her Lips are an exact match to her frock. So pretty and inviting. And the photo makes the pinks in my header really POP! I need to try this monochromatic look.

I live in Chocolate City, Work for NPR, am currently working on an MA in Interior Design, Love my roommate, friends and Kitteh, "Bits." Day to day I find more and more beauty lurking in the oddest spots. Rouge My Knees is an accumulation of notes on what I find whets my curiosity for all things toxic and pretty.
I love sharing my view of the world through the photos and links posted here.
