RIP Jeanne-Claude.
I felt fortunate when I was able to visit the Gates in NYC’s Central Park in the winter of 2005. For a period of time prior, I had my love affair with the collaborative works of magical Christo. It started when I saw photos of their pink islands…then it grew and matured with photos and videos of the blue and yellow Umbrellas scattered along the hillsides in the US and Japan.
The couple gave us largely wrapped presents and allowed us to share in the glorious process of wrapping nature and man-made structures. Bringing in the community to share and become part of the work itself. I like to imagine what they were like in private and it makes me smile.
Whimsical. Whimsical. Whimsical.
From their site:
Christo and Jeanne-Claude met in Paris, France in November, 1958, sharing the same date of birth and have worked together for 51 years creating temporary works of art.

This is the latest project they were working on, Over the River, still a work in progress on the Arkansas River in CO.
Some of the funnest videos show us the projects from start to finish.
Here is a sped up start to finish view of the Wrapped Reichstag in Germany, 1995.

I live in Chocolate City, Work for NPR, am currently working on an MA in Interior Design, Love my roommate, friends and Kitteh, "Bits." Day to day I find more and more beauty lurking in the oddest spots. Rouge My Knees is an accumulation of notes on what I find whets my curiosity for all things toxic and pretty.
I love sharing my view of the world through the photos and links posted here.

RIP – Jeanne-Claude, 74, who shared a birthday w/ husband and partner, Christo. May she wrap heaven in shimmering fabrics.
