NPR’s The Picture Show is always a great source of fun photo-related content.
The most recent, a highlight on Eliot Glazer’s Tumblr My Parents Were Awesome.

You can submit photos of your own Momma and Pappa Bears.
Here’s one of my mom and dad I found digging around
…taken shortly before they married
at the New Mexico State Fair. Handsome couple, eh? Loving both of their hairstyles.

It’s so funny to see how fashionable and hip these parents were.
You can see more on Eliot’s Tumblr…some of my faves:

I live in Chocolate City, Work for NPR, Love my roommate and two Kittehs. Day to day I find more and more beauty lurking in the oddest spots. Rouge My Knees is an accumulation of notes on what I find whets my curiosity for all things toxic and pretty.
I love sharing my view of the world through the photos and links posted here.

I’ve always asked myself, how can being a parent change people so much? Why do I feel my parents were normal people who transformed in a way to forget everything they were once they become parents?

Comment by Tasha November 18, 2009 @ 14:34This is such a great idea for a site. I always thought my parents were fashionable and I was always proud to introduce them to others. They instilled in me that there is a time for work and a time for play. They were very supportive and I’ve got some good memories of us having fun together.
Comment by lifelessons4u November 18, 2009 @ 14:50Girl, I LOVE your blog!! You have managed to attain your own sense of self, which is rare on this earth. Keep it, cherish it, and don’t ever let anyone tell you who you are.

Very good and thought provoking. Like some of your other readers, I’ll have to have a delve into the parental picture archives too. I suspect I’ll find a lot of Aran jumpers.
Comment by blackwatertown November 18, 2009 @ 22:38I love these photos!!! Isn’t it amazing to think these people became Parents with a capital P? The young pictures really humanize them. Thank you for posting. I am going to check out the rest of your blog — I like your sensibility!

I love the top photo. there is so much subtext there. It reminds me a an old photo of Richard Brautigan (great author). Think it was the cover of Pill vs Springhill Mine Disaster.
anyhow, great work. Am doing some more reading and digging around your site. Hope you don’t mind.

Comment by Stephanie Farrell November 19, 2009 @ 10:06Cool! I like how in the 70s, 80s, all of us thought we had to match! Same colors, patterns, like above!

Comment by warlock6 November 19, 2009 @ 10:12yes, parents change much after they become parents… strange, but it is the fact. so, what does it mean? not to become a parent? this is not a variant… so?
Great photos. Unfortunately, I don’t have photos like that of my parents, but I enjoyed the ones you posted here. When I get more time, I’ll have a look at the rest of your blog.
