Candy Land | Will Cotton Candy

Will Cotton.

He bakes pastel sweets and candy landscapes filled with gingerbread houses

and chocolate rivers, then transforms them into paintings.

His paintings are not like any fantasy land I’ve ever seen before…

I know I dreamed about candy filled rivers and pink cloud landscapes, thanks to the boardgame Candyland.

Encountering Cotton’s work has brought back all of those memories and then some.

Will Cotton took his art to a new level earlier this month when he transformed the Partners & Spade Gallery in NYC into an actual bakery, filled with his freshly baked tarts, pies, cakes and macaroons.

Guests were invited to purchase his treats at normal bakery fairs.  Gosh I wish I had made it there to savor the baked goods and the pastel dream paintings.

For now…browsing his website will do.  Some of these look like photographs of a real life candy land.  How fun would it be to have a Will Cotton portrait done?

When I first saw this editorial in Nylon, I was beside myself.

Who’d a thought I could actually have the same hair that I envied on my My Little Ponies growing up.  And then with Lady Gaga rocking it and singing about Lavender Blondes…

Now I’m sort of obsessed and wondering how I can turn my dark locks into a Unicorn worthy mop.

Thanks to CatParty I’m officially obsessed with this new Eva Green flick, Cracks

.  I can’t even look at the trailer for too long before I want to run out and find outfits to match hers in my closet.  I LOVED her look in The Dreamers and was very sad when the same sultry, natural side of her was not represented in Quantum of Solace.

the film is directed by Jordan Scott.

These two looks KILL me.

The animals, considering themselves exploited and misrepresented by man, hold a secret nocturnal meeting in the Jardin des Plantes zoo in Paris. The fox convinces them that their best weapon is intelligence, and they desire to produce a book of, by and for animals, to be illustrated by Grandville (as an “honorary animal”) and to be published by the sympathetics Hetzel and Paulin.  The bulk of Les Animaux thus consists of the “animals” literary contributions.

A Love Like Ours

RIP Jeanne-Claude.

I felt fortunate when I was able to visit the Gates in NYC’s Central Park in the winter of 2005.  For a period of time prior, I had my love affair with the collaborative works of magical Christo.  It started when I saw photos of their pink islands…then it grew and matured with photos and videos of the blue and yellow Umbrellas scattered along the hillsides in the US and Japan.

The couple gave us largely wrapped presents and allowed us to share in the glorious process of wrapping nature and man-made structures.  Bringing in the community to share and become part of the work itself.  I like to imagine what they were like in private and it makes me smile.

Whimsical. Whimsical. Whimsical.

From their site:

Christo and Jeanne-Claude met in Paris, France in November, 1958, sharing the same date of birth and have worked together for 51 years creating temporary works of art.

This is the latest project they were working on, Over the River, still a work in progress on the Arkansas River in CO.

Some of the funnest videos show us the projects from start to finish.

Here is a sped up start to finish view of the Wrapped Reichstag in Germany, 1995.

Parents Were Awesome… Before They Were Parents

NPR’s The Picture Show is always a great source of fun photo-related content.

The most recent, a highlight on Eliot Glazer’s Tumblr My Parents Were Awesome.

You can submit photos of your own Momma and Pappa Bears.

Here’s one of my mom and dad I found digging around

…taken shortly before they married

at the New Mexico State Fair.  Handsome couple, eh?  Loving both of their hairstyles.

It’s so funny to see how fashionable and hip these parents were.

You can see more on Eliot’s Tumblr…some of my faves:
