I’ve got to add blue fishnets to my wardrobe. Courtesy of Lyell. These pix are just lovely…a girl needs nothing more than some lovely tights and a nice old car to feel superb.

I remember seeing photos of Sarah on Kime Buzzeli’s blog last year…and I was awe struck. Sarah Sophie reflects the images in my head of the perfect style and look. I would go crazy raiding her closet and her apartment. I mean, who dangles from a trapeze in their living room? I love that she and her daughter sing songs from the Wizard of Oz and Mary Poppins…they just live in magic. So inspiring! and striking.

Refinery featured Sarah Sophie in their My Style section. And here is Kime’s post about visiting NYC and seeing her lovely friend.

I heart her jumper.
Sarah Sophie is co-founder of the cabaret collective Citizens Band.
My heart is aching and I’m moved to throw on something extra special this weekend.

My trip to NM was quite a success. I found so much inspiration and brought back some great treasures.

digging through old family photos, I found a great one of my parents taken at the state fair shortly before they married.
I also picked up some great vintage crocheted gloves, soon to be tea dyed for summer wear.
french candies in cute little tins.
the awesomely vintage looking hair clip with a hair net attached.
more vintage photos of beautiful family members.

I also picked up fabrics and buttons for my summer sewing project. I’ll be using the cute puppy/kitty print for the shorts jumper and navy hearts will be made into the pants jumper:

Digging through stuff at my parents’, I brought back one of the porcelain dolls my grandmother gave me and also some of my sister and mom’s old dooney and coach bags…they just do not make ‘em like they used to…

and finally, two projects I had on the back burner are nearly complete…frames for my saucy handmade floozy and hussy doilies, a frame for some vintage photos I brought back, and a lamp shade and tassels to make a shade for my vintage lamp. I also pulled a pretty turquoise vintage necklace from my grandmother’s jewelry box.

I’m falling over onto the floor and choking on my coffee as I post this…

Tim Burton
November 22, 2009–April 26, 2010
Theater 1 Gallery
Theater 2 Gallery
Special Exhibitions Gallery, third floor
Museum Lobby
This major career retrospective on Tim Burton (American, b. 1958), consisting of a gallery exhibition and a film series, considers Burton’s career as a director, producer, writer, and concept artist for live-action and animated films, along with his work as a fiction writer, photographer and illustrator. Following the current of his visual imagination from his earliest childhood drawing through his mature work, the exhibition presents artwork generated during the conception and production of his films, and highlights a number of unrealized projects and never-before-seen pieces, as well as student art, his earliest non-professional films, and examples of his work as a storyteller and graphic artist for non-film projects. The opposing themes of adolescence and adulthood, and the elements of sentiment, cynicism, and humor inform his work in a variety of mediums—drawings, paintings, storyboards, digital and moving-image formats, puppets and maquettes, props, costumes, ephemera, sketchbooks, and cartoons. Taking inspiration from sources in pop culture, Burton has reinvented Hollywood genre filmmaking as a spiritual experience, influencing a generation of young artists working in film, video, and graphics.
Burton’s films include Vincent (1982), Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure (1985), Beetlejuice (1988), Batman (1989), Edward Scissorhands (1990), Batman Returns (1992), The Nightmare Before Christmas (as creator and producer) (1993), Ed Wood (1994), Mars Attacks! (1996), Sleepy Hollow (1999), Big Fish (2003), Corpse Bride (2005), Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005), and Sweeney Todd (2007); writing and Web projects include The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy & Other Stories (1997) and Stainboy (2000).
Organized by Ron Magliozzi, Assistant Curator, and Jenny He, Curatorial Assistant, Department of Film, with Rajendra Roy, The Celeste Bartos Chief Curator of Film.
Duran Central Pharmacy, Albuquerque, NM.

I went to a couple of old style pharmacies while I was home…and they are just so charming. I found so many great trinkets and colognes…and french & Italian candies! My favorite find is the Coty face powder I brought home. I can remember seeing it in my mom and aunts’ bathrooms growing up. It’s so special…Duran’s is great because they have a wonderful restaurant attached:

Here’s just a glimpse of the goods:

The other pharmacy is called Model Pharmacy and it’s equally charming.

My favorite find from Model’s is a silk bow barrette with fishnet hairnet attached. It’s going to be a wonderful way to beat the summer heat with my long unruly hair and DC humidity.
Goods at Model Pharmacy:

The Coty Airspun face powder, RogeR&Gallet Carnation Travel Soap for my next summer trip to the BVI’s and Humphrey’s Maravilla Witch Hazel I picked up:

being back at work means tons of emails to skim through…and also playing catch up with my fave blogs, mainly the sartorialist…totally digging this guy’s look and especially the smart tee:

and hollister has some lovely new posts (I’m so obsessed with her!). Especially the heads up on this amazing new book on our fave little edie:

today begins my first summer trip…home to new mexico. I do have a love/hate thing for airports and travel…today I’ll take a train to the plane…there is something romantic about traveling in style…

I’ll hopefully capture some great shots of the desert skyline and hopefully I’ll give my Diana F+ a good flex. A few things I am looking forward to on this trip are spending time with family, stuffing myself with green chili, going through old family photographs, picking out fabric for my summer sewing project and cutting out the pattern with my mom, real thrift store shopping and lots of time with the new puppy and cat.
ciào!
