lately I’ve been toying with the idea that I’ll enroll in a tap dance class this summer. It would be the perfect excuse to tramp around town in high-waisted shorts from Lewis NYC or Rachel Antonoff. I’ve been trying to reason with myself and my wallet as to why I would need to buy more than one pair of super high-waist tap shorts. Enrolling in a class is a sure fire way to relieve my conscience. Plus the dance skills are going to be priceless.
Note, both videos on the former Mooka Kinney gals’ sites are wonderful. Must watch!!! The LEWIS vid just makes me want to run around chugging champagne in oxfords and pretty lingerie.

I confess. I have an abysmal thing for Jason Schwartzman.

His first album is great.

Rogue Taxidermy
Rogue taxidermy is the creation of stuffed animals which do not have real, live counterparts, such as the jackelope and the skvader. They may have mythical counterparts (e.g. dragons), be of the taxidermist’s imagination, or be endangered or extinct species. They can be made from the supposed parts of mythical animals (e.g.chimeras, griffins, unicorns) or they may be artificially created. Rogue taxidermy is often seen in sideshows and dime museums among genuine freak animals.

That’s a new definition I just discovered while looking up various methods of taxidermy. I find the it all amazing, albeit a bit horrifying, but at the same time beautiful. I was able to explore my fascination last year when I came across a Vanity Fair article on Deyrolle, the 170 year old Parisian shop that suffered a near fatal fire in Feb 2008. It is one of Wes Andersen’s favorite stops when he is in the city of lights. I’m hoping to eventual end up with a nice collection of peacocks and various curiosities.
Tea anyone?

turns out some sweethearts say You & Me. I didn’t realize this until I was decorating my red velvets. How excited I was becuase I haven’t been able to stop listening to You & Me – the latest release from The Walkmen. I’ve felt a closeness to the band since finding out they grew up in the DC area. It’s not just their preference for vintage instruments that hooked me but also their keen sense of style, especially when it comes to cover art. I just love the cover of their debut album Everyone Who Pretended to Like Me Is Gone.

And their newest release is just as vintage bad ass. I’ve seen them described as bob dylan meets joy division. I would agree.
The band sounds fantastic live. Catch them in action here on Juan’s Basement:

Unicorns in love!!

so I tried my hand again at making red velvet cupcakes this past valentines day. they turned out splendid. this time I felt bold enough to make my own creamcheese frosting. I ended up cutting the tip off of a plastic bag to make the hearts. finishing them off with some sweethearts and red sprinkles did the trick! they turned out magical. there are several good recipes that I found online and I ended up adding more cocoa to my batter. Love wasoverflowing!

I live in Chocolate City, Work for NPR, am currently working on an MA in Interior Design, Love my roommate, friends and Kitteh, "Bits." Day to day I find more and more beauty lurking in the oddest spots. Rouge My Knees is an accumulation of notes on what I find whets my curiosity for all things toxic and pretty.
